simple life?

This weekend it has been back to the "simple life" for me!

The internet in my house in New York broke. Now I know what people are thinking...you don't need the internet to get by in life and for many years people lived without computers let alone the internet.

But I have noticed how much I use the internet just to communicate with people in my everyday life. I e-mail my parents, Matthew, and friends who are evem at Houghton to set up meetings, and ask questions for classes. Also a lot of people at Houghton do not have cell phones so I cant call them up to talk or ask a quick question! It has been aggrivating to say the least.

Although the internet is used for a social purpose, I also need to internet to get by as a college student in the 21st century. I need to go on cnn.com to look up information on the current war in the Gaza Strip for my Islamics class, or print out articles from Christanitytoday.com for my contemporary church and missions class. So to get on the internet for the next few days at best or weeks as worst, I need to walk to the Campus Center which is usualy about a 5 minute walk but is about a 10-15 minute walk from my house when it is snowing hard and about 3 degrees out and -15 with the wind chill!!!!

I feel that this may turn out to be a positive thing in my life becasue I will admit I am a bit addicted to facebook and myspace and going on every second that I do not want to be reading or doing other work. I think I will notice that my life will be made more difficult but I am remembering abck to Tanzania and that I survived without the internet (except about one every few weeks) and I can do it again. I will suck it up and walk to the campus center....but I WILL NOT ENJOY IT!
