so today it began
Today in the Houghton College lounge we had senior salute. Where I received graduation information along with my cap and gown, this is scary stuff it means I will be out in the real world soon.
So as it are standing in line to get our names on the right lists, and check the spelling of our names a million different times, the topic comes up...the topic of what we are going to be doing come May. And people are going on and on about how they got a teaching job or how they will be attending grad school, and then it got me. I was asked if I would be going to Africa to work as a missionary among the Maasai which has been my dream for some time now.
I tell them that I can not go to Africa because I have student loans that I need to pay off after college and that the missions agency wont take people with student loans, and then the comments start. First off apparently none of these people have student loans, because they and or their families are rich (sorry but I can not not for my 35,000 dollar a year school out of pocket and still eat!!!) So then I am asked what I am going to be doing.... and I dread my answer but I say it anyways.....
I will be going to live at home and work at GAP again until I can get enough $$ together to get married and pay off some loans so I can go to Africa all while looking for a job with refugees in Boston...and then it comes a girl that I know quite well as she went to Tanzania with me says and I quote..."So do you feel lame and pathetic that you are moving home with your family and working a GAP I mean you did go to college."
UGH I was so mad and I wanted to cry. I thought a lot of people graduated not really knowing what they will be doing. Am I the only one? What are you guys doing, or what did you do after college?
